The main reasons it seems as though so many people fear going to the dentist is either physical pain, or financial pain. Both of which, at least in the case of dental fears, are rooted in poor daily dental hygiene. This poor hygiene whether caused by poor techniques or just bad habits, is what causes your gradual decline in dental health, thus leading to painful, and sometimes expensive trips to the dentist. So what we thought we would do here through our dental blog, is start the year off with helping you and your family get back to some dental basics.
In this article we’re going to focus on one of the foundational dental care basics that seems to get lost in the mix amongst brushing and flossing, of course we are talking about rinsing with mouthwash. In almost everything we clean from our cars to our dishes, there is a pre-wash process that we go through. A rough cleaning or loosening up if you will, of what we want to clean more thoroughly later on in the process. This is the exact same concept that we must use on our teeth with proper mouthwash products and rinsing techniques.
The goal of rinsing with mouthwash is two fold:
- To loosen plaque before you brush and help kill Gingivitis causing germs
- To help restore your teeth’s enamel
For the goal of loosening plaque before you brush we recommend Listerine. According to studies, simply incorporating a 30 second rinse of Listerine into your morning and night time brushing routines will help reduce plaque by 52%! Now that’s a result worth changing for isn’t it?
For the purpose of restoring your teeth’s enamel. you will need a fluoride mouthwash, and for this we recommend ACT. Fluoride is actually a natural mineral that works to help rebuild your teeth’s lost enamel. If you think you are safe from tooth decay think again!
Did you know that:
- 85% of adults experience tooth decay
- and more than 60% of adults will lose a permanent tooth due to cavities
Now there are some powerful statistics that I’m sure you don’t want yourself or your family becoming a part of. So ACT today! Simply start using ACT as little as once per day for 1 minute after you brush and floss to start restoring your lost tooth enamel almost immediately.
By incorporating these two very simple tools into your daily dental routine you can be sure that future trips to the dentist will be less painful both physically, and financially. Now if that’s not motivation enough then I don’t know what is! Stay tuned for the rest of this “Dental Hygiene 101” series over the next few weeks.
